Welcome

A work of Art is the expression of a man's whole personality, sensibility and ability.

Hi,
I'm Sophie Keburia. Art Critic. Neither young, nor old. I teach Visual Arts at school. It's an amasing experience for me after lecturing at the Tbilisi State University, Art History Department. With kids I feel myself always fresh. When I see results of my efforts, it gives me new breath, new inspiration, new ideas. It makes me happy. So, my two teenager children - Giorgi and Nina are lucky to have a lucky mother.

  9. What can the arts tell me about the world?

Arts tell, but one should be able to hear. This ability is the main skill I want to teach my students. It depends on person - how much he/she may "hear" and understand.
Art shows me whole world in its diversity. There are so many things in Art that are dear to me, that nurse my soul... Maybe because I'm both Asian and European (due to the location of Georgia). So, equally nourishe me Ishtar Gate and Santa Maria del Fiore.
Besides emotional side, Art tells me much about unique ways of thinking, feeling and transferring.
Secret. Despite artwork is open to us, it always hides something that the WORLD CHIEF ART CRITIC should never reveal. Secrets excite. Anyone can see or hear whatever he/she will be able to do according to his/her cultural background.

"The art of a people is a true mirror to their minds". It may be true for people but concerning persons... We all have different sight (view defined by our background), so we see different things in that mirror!

  11. We see different things in the mirror and noone sees everything.

  12. What does learning in the Arts mean?
Learning means much. Learning means that one can paint in any chosen way. It's a great achievement if it's enough for you. I knew one guy who had no talent at all but he learned and learned and learned, he trained himself endlessly and as a result, he could imitate nature perfectly. He could paint any style but he could merely repeat creations of others and noone could feel a person behind his artworks. They said nothing. There was no energy and passion in his works. So, one can learn Art, develop art skills but to become an artist one needs talent and devotion.
